Anam Cara is a phrase that refers to the Celtic concept of the "soul friend" in religion and spirituality. This spirit animates the music of this local band, whose Celtic-inspired tunes will make for an inspiring and enjoyable afternoon. Anam Cara is Angela Wood and David Evans, who is a veteran of past popular Celtic bands such as Hear the Darlings Roar, Gillie Wheesles, and MacMasters and Johnson. Alex Milaychev is a singer/songwriter who is known for her comedy-folk-acoustic style of storytelling. All are welcome to come to the amphitheater at the Lavra for this donation-based concert.
Angela Wood came into this world singing. At six, her parents enrolled her in acting, dance, and voice classes, and she spent her formative years touring the East Coast with a Cabaret company called The Company II. After graduating from the Baltimore Actors Theater Conservatory for Performing Artists, she journeyed West to attend UCLA where she continued perfecting her craft. Since then Angela has performed as a soloist, as part of a duo, as the lead singer for multiple bands, and on the musical theater stage from the Odyssey theater in Santa Monica, to the Foot Lighters in Riverside, to the Harold J. Miossi stage here in SLO. David Foster Evans is a founding member of Celtic bands Hear the Darlings Roar, Gillie Wheesles, and MacMasters and Johnson, David has been playing live music on the Central Coast for 35 years, and now continues as vocalist and instrumentalist with Anam Cara. His musical adventure began in Santa Barbara, where he played guitar in numerous Reggae bands up and down the coast, developing a swirling world-music approach playing Guitar, Mandolin, and Octave-Mandolin for Anam Cara’s original songs and traditional arrangements. Angela met David Evans through Charlie Puffer and the dynamic duo, Anam Cara, was born in the spring of 2019.
Alex Milaychev is a singer/songwriter who is known for her comedy-folk-acoustic style of storytelling. Alex brings over 20 years of performance experience in dance, aerial acrobatics, and burlesque to her craft of songwriting and performing.
