Using AI to promote ecological thinking

  • The Lavra Arroyo Grande, CA U.S.A. (map)

with Allison Myers, Assistant Professor of art history at Cal Poly

Allison will discuss the LA/San Diego-based art project SUPERRADIANCE—a video and sound installation that uses artificial intelligence to generate an immersive visual experience meant to pull viewers into an ecological frame of thinking. The work provokes important questions about the use of AI in environmentalist artworks and initiatives.

Superradiance is a multiscreen video and sound installation and film by Memo Akten and Katie Peyton Hofstadter that invites the viewer to extend their bodily perception beyond the skin and into the living environment.

Embracing a superposition of epistemologies and holding space for complexity, we want to challenge the boundaries of self, biology, geology, and technology – contemplating the whole planet as a living cyber-organism which exists across time.
